Maria Sharapova was born on April 19, 1987 in Nyagan, Russia. Her family moved to the Black Sea resort town of Sochi. When she was only 4 years old she began to take interest in Tennis. She got the apportunity to meet with well known tennis star Yevgeny Kafelnkov and that man gave her a racket, she started hitting tennis ball with the racket from that moment so after that tennis became a passion for her. Maria Sharapova moved to America with her family. When Sharapova was only 7 years old her father Yuri took her to the U.S. with less than $1,000 and without knowing a word of English. She was intriverted and shy when a sport company IMG agreed to sponsor Sharapova with $35,000 US per year it costs to stay at the Bollettieri Academy.

Maria Sharapova offical tennis career began in 2001 after joining the junior circuit. She won 25 matches and lost three during that year. Maria joined the WTA and was impressed by everyone in 2003. She beat Serena Williams and won Wimbledon in 2004 after that she was the first Russian to win a Wimbledon singles title and the third youngest women's champion in history.
